To welcome in 2019, I created this black and gold New Year design, using Sugar Bubbles’ SBS 18 stamping plate, and Masura’s “Rough Diamond” black and silver/grey magnetic polish.
As always, I started by applying a thick coat of my F.U.N Lacquer “Triple 5” base coat and allowed up to five minutes for it to dry.
I then applied a coat of my black creme polish to all of my nails. Once the base colour was dry, I painted over it using two coats of Masura’s “Rough Diamond”. I held the Masura magnet horizontally over the wet polish, immediately after applying the second coat to create this beautiful, shimmery black and silver effect. When using magnetic polish you need to use the magnet when the polish is still completely wet, so using it after applying the second coat of polish to all nails wouldn’t be very effective.
For the best result, I went over the nail with the magnet again after I applied the top coat.
When I was sure that the polish and top coat was dry, I applied my Cuticula liquid latex to the skin around my nails.
First, I stamped these champagne glasses shown circled below onto my middle fingernail in gold polish. To see my stamping guide for beginners, click here.
To make it appear as though the glasses were full, I used a small nail brush to carefully fill them in with a pale, sheer gold polish.
Next, I stamped fireworks patterns on my forefinger, ring finger and pinky nails using gold stamping polish by Born Pretty.
On the thumbnail, I stamped this cute clock that is ready to strike midnight, using the same gold stamping polish.
**Note: Sorry for the poor camera angles. I broke the nails on my left hand, so I am having to take pictures of the nails on my right hand and the positioning is awful. 😦**
To finish the look, I sealed in the design using my non-smear glossy top coat by MoYou London and then the new year nails were complete.
This is the finished look:
Initially, I had planned to have the fireworks show in different colours, but it ended up looking a little chaotic and messy, so I started over and kept it all gold. I think it turned out better since gold seems to be a colour that is most associated with New Year’s Eve parties.
